Walking with Gratitude

Yesterday, I met up with my son, and we walked from Glasson Dock to Lancaster and back, along the cycle way - about 10 miles.

This is a lovely part of the world, where the River Lune empties into Morecambe Bay. It was a clear autumnal morning as we set out, with the haunting cries of curlews echoing across the saltmarshes. The trees and hedgerows bordering the path were bright with berries and rosehips, and although it was rather muddy underfoot, we kept up a good pace. Our conversation was easy, and my overwhelming feeling was one of gratitude; this was a chance to spend time with the son I love, getting some good exercise, and enjoying the natural world.

Walking is great medicine and a good stress-buster, especially when combined with a sense of gratitude. Click here to learn how to treat yourself to a "Gratitude Walk."

Writing prompt:
1. Write about a walk you have taken. It may have been in the city, or your local neighbourhood, rather than out in the countryside, but what did you notice - anything unusual? How did it make you feel? In what way did it effect your mood?

2. Write about an imaginary walk, perhaps along a path you have never taken, or in a part of the world you would love to visit. Describe the scene. Are you alone, or with someone? Use your senses: what can you see, hear, smell, taste, feel? What happens?
