Today is World Postcard Day. We've been sending postcards to each other for 150 years. I recently discovered 'Postcrossing', a wonderful website that enables you to send and receive postcards to and from people all over the world.
It takes me back to my childhood when I used to send airmail letters to 'penpals' in countries including Australia, the U.S.A. Germany, France and South Africa. I used to love receiving those flimsy letters, written on airmail paper, and learning about other people's way of life. 'Postcrossing' is similar.
I still love sending and getting hand-written things through the post; it's so much more exciting and interesting that receiving a text message or email. Having recently sent out five postcards, yesterday I received my first one from Dennis in Los Angeles who loves to read, watch tv comedies and drink tea!
Why not explore the postcard links above? You might just get hooked like me.
Writing Prompt: Write a postcard to someone. You don't have to post it unless you want to, so you can say whatever you like. It could even be to someone who is no longer alive - perhaps someone famous, or a deceased relative. Share any thoughts in the comments box below.
