Writer and wellness coach Heidi Barr has kindly given permission for me to share her timely poem 'December Dark.' She says:
"December feels a bit like a walk through the dark (at least on this side of the world as we approach winter). Here in Minnesota the snow has started, days start losing light quickly by 4:30 pm, and schedules fill fast with end of year sorts of things. But there is also an opportunity here, in these dark days, to savor the little rituals that keep us grounded in what's important - those ceremonies of the ordinary that are always within reach."
Writing prompt:
- What little rituals, or ceremonies of the ordinary have you enjoyed today? Making tea? Rolling out pastry for mince pies? Walking across a muddy field? Choose one and write about it. Really focus your attention on the process, noticing every small detail.
- When was the last time you revelled, or savoured 'slowness'? If you have small grandchildren you will know how you have to slow down, taking in every puddle, worm, stick and dog as if experiencing them for the first time. Write about your time of 'slowness', describing what you did and where and how if made you feel.
Wonderful prompts, Judith! Thanks for sharing them with us.
ReplyDeleteThank you Heidi. I have only just seen this, as for some reason I was not being notified about new comments. I think I've rectified that now. Please continue to follow the blog and let me know what you think.
