The latest Writing Map (above) from Shaun Levin is interesting and sure to get you writing. Here's what Shaun says:
It's been that kind of year. A year of parables and allegories, lessons of what's right and wrong, if you do this then that will happen, if you don't do this then that will happen. Remember when the dolphins returned to Venice back in April, when goats roamed freely in that Welsh village, or was it in Thailand, and peacocks (true story) strutted around our streets here in Madrid. Remember how singing "Happy Birthday" twice while washing our hands could save us from this virus that was still so mysterious and new.
Writing Card #50 is an invitation to write a few short fables, legends, and moral tales. Think Aesop. The prompt is inspired by Lewis Carrol's Alice in Wonderland, so allow yourself to be outrageous and nonsensical.
One way of approaching the exercise is to read over some of what you've written in the past 9 months, in your journal, your diary, notebook, on your device, even your WhatsApp messages. There'll be clues there to some of the anecdotes you could use to make moral tales. It's been a seriously difficult year on many different levels, so use your writing to entertain yourself, make yourself giggle.
A version of this week's prompt appears on Write Over the Top: A Writing Map to Fabulous Stories along with other strange story suggestions and writing ideas.
What are the weekly Writing Cards?
- Writing Cards are free to print out, share, and carry with you for inspiration. Click on the image above for a downloadable version.
- Each Writing Card is devised to keep you writing through the week: memoir, fiction, poetry, new stories, or add to whatever you're working on now.
- If you're liking the Writing Cards, please consider supporting my work by buying a Writing Map and encouraging others to join the newsletter via this link.
And the moral of that story is... Stay safe, be nice, look out for others.
