"Trust yourself, you know more than you think you do." (Dr Benjamin Spock)
Dr Spock's advice to new mums was encouraging, reassuring and exactly what was needed in the face of confusion and doubt.
He also said, "There’s so much information out there, it’s hard to know what to listen to. Everyone has an opinion." That seems especially relevant this week when we have been told that most Covid restrictions will be lifted on July 19th, as there's still a huge debate about what's best regarding the wearing of face masks. Maybe we should just trust our own judgement about what is the right thing to do.
Writing Prompt:
- You know more than you think. Make a list of some things you know for sure. Perhaps turn this list into a poem, or choose one thing and write about it in more detail.
- Write about a time when you did something that was contrary to how other people were behaving. Why did you do it? How did you feel?
- Is it easy to trust yourself? What makes you doubt whether you are doing the right thing? Are you easily swayed by what other people advise you, or do you usually go with your own gut instinct? Write about it.
