The great, Ocar-winning composer and song-writer Leslie Bricusse has died at the age of 90. He had an amazing talent and his songs have been sung by many famous singers - Shirley Bassey, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Junior, Anthony Newley, Gene Wilder and Frank Sinatra, to name but a few. He wrote the lyrics for such wonderful songs as 'What Kind of Fool Am I?' , 'Who Can I Turn To?', 'Pure Imagination' and James Bond themes 'Goldfinger' and 'You Only Live Twice'.

The latter talks about us 'drifting through the years', and 'life seeming tame', with the line "You only live twice ....One life for yourself and one for your dreams".

Writing prompts:

  • Has your life been 'tame' and have you just 'drifted through the years', or has your life had purpose, with excitement and surprises? Write for seven minutes without stopping.
  • Would you change your life if you could? Write about the 'life of your dreams'.
  • Clicks of some of the links above (apologies for adverts) and write in response to one of the songs.
  • Do you have a favourite song lyric? Write about why you like it and if it has a special significance for you.
