Lonely Brother
 by William Arthur Dunkerley

Art thou lonely, O my brother?
Share thy little with another!
Stretch a hand to one unfriended,
And thy loneliness is ended.
So both thou and he
Shall less lonely be.
And of thy one loneliness
Shall come two's great happiness.

This week (May 9 to 15) is Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme this year is 'Loneliness'. The Mental Health Foundation has some good advice about how to cope with loneliness and improve your mental health. Click here to find to find out more and here to read some inspirational and moving stories of loneliness. Click here for help.

Joining a local group is one way to combat loneliness. If you live in the Norwood Green/ Hipperholme/ Wyke areas please come along to my writing for well-being group which meets this Thursday at 2.15 in Norwood Green Village Hall. This week's theme is 'Friendship'.

Writing prompts:

  • Write about a time when you have been lonely. Describe your feelings. Set a timer for six minutes.
  • Make a list of five things you could do this week to help combat your own loneliness.
  • Make another list of things you could do to help someone else who is feeling lonely.
