Cherry Fingers

My mum was a great cook and a fantastic baker. Sadly I have not inherited her baking skills, but during this current lock-down I have had more time and been tempted to practise to try to improve them. I did inherit two of her folders that contained hand-written recipes that she had collected over many years. Just looking at them, and seeing her hand-writing, makes me feel sad that she is no longer here. She would have been proud, however, of the cherry fingers I made. She made them often, and were one of my favourites as a child. I used to stand at her knee waiting for her to finish with the mixing bowl so that I could use my finger to scrape it out.

I wonder if you have a favourite recipe, or if there was something that someone in your family used to make that you loved? Perhaps, during these strange times, you are finding more time to cook, or bake, and are experimenting, trying different recipes. I know Sam has been uploading some good ones on to the SHINE website.

Writing prompt: Write about a time that you remember, when you, or someone in your family, cooked or baked something. Maybe it was delicious, but it could equally have been a complete disaster! Take yourself back to that memory. Picture it in your mind. Who was there? What can you see? What can you smell? What can you taste? Write about the food and share your experience.
