Recent weeks have provided many people with a time for reflection. Well Words group member Tracy was prompted, by the view from her window, to reflect on some of the miracles taking place in the wider world. Her poem prompts us all to think about the decisions we make from here.
Outside My Window
There was a little sparrow
that often visited me.
She would perch way up high,
so she could look me in the eye.
I live in a flat, first floor, you see.
I like looking out the window at the tree.
I often sit and gaze outdoors,
feeling very blessed I am on a pause.
I gave my sparrow a name, ‘Maisey’,
it beautifully suited her to a tee.
She was so very pretty,
my eye was so pleased.
One morning I spoke to her,
and she chirped right back at me.
I asked her how life was going,
and she chirped back, “I am at ease.”
"You see the wonders of the beginning
are now becoming released and singing."
She told me of the white stork,
and baby hatchlings - not one, but three.
In creation it’s a miracle,
because no birth
had been seen
since the year 1416.
Let’s hope there is a come-back
of nightingales and turtle doves,
and all that God created,
just because He loves us.
Fish in the ocean,
their air cells damaged,
from jet skis and power boats,
and all that carnage.
The white-tailed eagle
is seen over the UK.
It was last seen here
in 1780, I must say.
The water blue and clear in Venice,
a transformation of what was once dead.
Now shoals of tiny fish,
crabs and plant life in a sandy bed.
The pollution gone in China,
they walk the great big wall,
and for the first time in years
they see it, great splendour, grandeur and all.
Carbon emissions
drop by 2.5 billion;
in this day and age
they say it was once in a million.
The air is making a come-back,
that God so rightly has given.
Can you not see
we have to make a decision?
Please let’s not go back,
to how it was ‘the norm’,
it’s time to sow and grow,
and make our own corn.
NHS, PPE, death of virus and so forth be....
It’s a time of opportunity,
of new creation being seen,
so I beg of you please.
In the midst of all the wrong,
there is a sowing of threaded gold-
a time for sifting, reflection, replenishing,
for God and his Son
it will be done
for Thy kingdom will come.
Open the window and let the sparrow in. Give forth warmth and sustenance and life to one of His smallest creatures.
