Instructions for living a life:
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.
Mary Oliver (from her poem 'Sometimes')
This morning as I left the house in rather a hurry, dodging the raindrops on this grim, October day, I noticed this lily outside my porch. It was given to me a few weeks ago by a friend who dug it up out of her Lake District garden and instructed me to put it into a well-drained pot, which I duly did. I'd forgotten about it, and wasn't expecting it to do anything until next year, but low and behold it has begun to flower, and in the most beautiful shade of dark pink. I was astonished and grateful.
Writing prompt: Poet Mary Oliver gave a good instruction (above). What astonished you today when you paid attention? Write about it.
