Solitude

Photo by Scott Van Hoy on Unsplash

The last blog post inspired a friend to write a poem, which is currently also being turned into a song. I'm looking forward to hearing it.

Solitude

When the sun cries tears of blood

Cascading into azure sea

Somewhere down the blackened sand

Come searching, you’ll find me

Lying back on foundations old

Stare up at clouded shapes so sheer

In solitude and yet, a part

Of everything, with all to fear

And yet, and yet, such doubt within

As wondrous figures crowd my vision

Alight, a light to guide my fate

Cross boundaries of indecision

Be it love or life or twixt between

To choose would mean great pain and sorrow

To those who care, what few are left

I live upon the time I borrow

As clouds scud by in restless breeze

Another day forever lost

Sit silent on this rock of life

A figure counting out the cost

In camouflage of broken dreams

Blend into background grey and green

I will not stir, nor make a move

Slip into current, sight unseen.

Writing prompt:

Read Dave's poem again and choose a phrase, or line, that you are drawn to. It could be "tears of blood", "blackened sand" or perhaps "this rock of life". When you have chosen, use that phrase or line to trigger your own writing. Put it at the top of your page, close your eyes, take a couple of deep breaths, settle your mind and still your body, then write. You may end up with a poem yourself, or even a story. Please share if you feel able. (Instructions for doing this, "Using the Blog", can be found on the top right of this page).
