Nature rarer uses Yellow
Than another Hue –
Saves she all of that for Sunsets –
Prodigal of Blue
Spending Scarlet, like a Woman
Yellow she affords
Only scantly and selectly
Like Lover's Words
Emily Dickinson
Yellow is definitely the predominant colour in my garden at the moment, despite what the poet says about it being used 'scantly and selectly' in nature. The marsh marigolds, tulips, cowslips and daffodils were glorious today in the Spring sunshine. Come the summer though, everything will change, and there will be predominance of blue, so perhaps Emily is right after all.
Writing prompts:
- Write about colours in nature. What colours can you see around you at the moment in gardens, parks or in the countryside?
- Choose one colour and write about all the associations that colour has in nature be it, for example, with flowers, trees, birds, animals, skies or seas.
- What emotions do colours in nature arouse in you? Write about how you feel?
My garden is filled with pinks, reds and purples from the tulips and when I think of those colours I am transported back to Tudor times for some reason.
ReplyDeleteYes, I know what you mean. I really love tulips. I think you being transported back to Tudor times is the jump-off for a story. Who were you, Ann Boleyn, Elizabeth 1?
