Where on earth would we be without volunteers? Sometimes it feels as though the whole country is being run by kind, selfless people, who give up their spare time to help others and expect nothing in return. Often, I think, they go unnoticed, or are taken for granted. That's why it's good that this special week recognises and thanks volunteers for the contribution they make.

Writing prompt:
- Write about a time when you have been helped by a volunteer. Perhaps it was someone at your local hospital or school, or someone with a local charity. Was it a good experience? Maybe it changed your life in some way. Write for seven minutes and please share in the comments box.
- Are you, or have you been a volunteer? Write about it, especially how it makes / made you feel and why you do / did it?
- If you are not a volunteer, think about something you would like to to, real or imaginary. It might be working in a charity shop, or helping children to read. Maybe you'd like to pick up litter by your local canal, or chat on the phone once as week to someone who's lonely. Write about it. I'd love to hear you thoughts.
