'Look for the Silver Lining'

"No matter how dark the cloud, there is always a thin, silver lining, and that is what we must look for."
Wangari Maathai

On holiday in the Lake District this week we have experienced all kinds of weather, mainly heavy rain. There has rarely been a clear sky, but the clouds have been spectacular, especially viewed from on top of the fells. Despite the rain, I've had much to be thankful for this week: a beautiful garden to admire; invigorating cycling through spectacular countryside; a chance to slow down, relax, unwind and reflect;  quality time spent and enjoyed with my husband.

These past 18 months have often been over-shadowed by dark clouds and have held some grim moments for many people. The Covid 19 pandemic has brought loneliness, isolation, insecurity, instability, poverty, illness and death. The virus hasn't gone away, but we seem to be finally emerging from the darkness into the light again. There will be new challenges to face, but as we are told by the Nobel Peace Prize winner above, it helps to 'look for the silver lining'.

Writing Prompts:

  • Write about the 'silver linings' that you found among the dark clouds of the Covid pandemic.
  • How is it possible to see the positives, rather than the negatives in life? Write about your own experience.
  • Make a list of ten things that you are grateful for right now, at this moment.
