World Postcard Day 2021

I'm a Postcrosser. Since June 2020 I've sent 101 postcards and received 102, from countries all over the world. They are colourful, interesting and during the Covid pandemic gave a revealing insight into what was happening outside the UK. Their arrival though my letter box always brightens my day, and they are so much better and more personal that a text, email, or Whatsapp message.

Today is World Postcard Day so why not send a postcard and surprise your family, friend, neighbour, or someone who has had a rough year and could use a bit of kindness. Let them know you’re thinking of them!

Click here for Ringo Starr's ''Postcards From Paradise" and here for a mail-themed playlist.

Writing prompt:

  • Imagine you are sending a postcard from where you are now. Where would you send it - through time or space? Who would you send it to, why would you send it and what would you say? Write about it.
  • When was the last time you received a postcard? Write about receiving it, where it came from and how it made you feel.
  • Imagine you are an alien, stranded on Earth. Send a postcard to your family back home. What would you say about life here?
  • Do you agree that handwritten messages on paper are better and more personal that those on screens using IT? Explain why in your writing.
