"Dare to stand before those you fear, and speak your mind, even if your voice shakes."
Maggie Kuhn
"To fear the foe, since fear oppresseth strength,
Gives in your weakness strength unto your foe."
William Shakespeare
On the day that Russia invades Ukraine it's hard not to feel afraid at where this conflict will end, and wonder about what is the right response. Ukranian citizens must be feeling terribly afraid, but they seem determined to resist and fight for their freedom and democracy.
Writing prompts:
- Set a timer for six minutes and write about your fears. How do you face them? What gives you strength?
- Has there been a moment in your life when you have had to stand up to someone and speak your mind? Write about what happened? How did you feel? Set a timer for six minutes and write without stopping.
- What does democracy mean to you? Do you value it, or do you take it for granted? Is it important to you to use your democratic vote? How would you feel if you were no longer allowed to express your view?
