"I had not loved enough. I’d been busy, busy, so busy, preparing for life, while life floated by me, quiet and swift as a regatta."(Lorene Cary)
Do you have a bucket list? If so, is it just a list on paper, maybe of pipe dreams that you know will never come to reality, or is it something you act on, so that you can tick things off?
So often we are caught up in preparing for that perfect time, when we will have the right amount of money, energy, motivation and commitment. Only then might we get round to sailing that boat round the British coast, climbing the Three Peaks, learning to swim, visiting that friend we haven't seen for 20 years, or making peace with an estranged family member. By then, however, it might be too late. Life isn't a rehearsal.
Writing Prompts:
- Have you ever been so busy 'preparing for life' that you have missed a golden opportunity? Write about it, expressing any regrets, and saying what you could have done differently.
- Have you 'loved enough', or has life slipped by all too quickly, without you even noticing? Write about the loves in your life, past and present. How can you make sure you set aside enough time for loving in the future?
- Make a list of three things you have been dreaming about, but could realistically achieve by the end of the year. What do you need to put in place to achieve them?
