A Queue of Pilgrimage

“A journey becomes a pilgrimage as we discover, day by day, that the distance travelled is less important than the experience gained.” ~ Ernest Kurtz

“A pilgrim is a wanderer with purpose. A pilgrimage can be to a place – that’s the best known kind – but it can also be for a thing. Mine is for peace, and that is why I am a Peace Pilgrim.” ~ Peace Pilgrim

“In matters of pilgrimage, should you be more like a shark? Just keep moving forward, never back?”
A.D. Aliwat,
In Limbo

People are being advised today not to join the lengthy queue of people waiting to pay their respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Thousands of mourners have already processed through Westminster Hall where the late queen lies in state. One visitor said 'The Queue' was "like being a part of the Canterbury Tales -the stories of pilgrimage and new relationships forged... Just beautiful."

Writing Prompts:

  • Write about your response to the Queen's death and the images you have watched on tv since then? Set a timer for six minutes.
  • Does the Queen's death trigger memories of the death of a member of your family, or a friend? Write about your memories and feelings.
  • Have you ever made any kind of pilgrimage? Write about it for six minutes.
  • What is the longest queue you have experienced? Recall what happened using all your senses.
