There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it's all dark. - Roger Waters

Every man is a moon and has a [dark] side which he turns toward nobody; you have to slip around behind if you want to see it. - Mark Twain

Don't judge people by their outer appearances. Even the bright, beautiful moon has its dark side which it keeps hidden all the time  - Muhammad Imran Hasan

"Some things should stay mysteries," said Metzli. "The moon would not be the same moon, if one side did not remain in the dark." - Linda Barlow

You can go to the dark side of the moon and back and see nothing more wonderful and strange than the way men and women manage to get together. - John Updike

I've never been content to pass a stone without looking under it. And it is a black disappointment to me that I can never see the far side of the moon. - John Steinbeck

It is 50 years this month since Pink Floyd released 'Dark Side of the Moon'. I was introduced to it, in 1973, by a three young men from Southampton while we were all staying at Coniston Coppermines Youth Hostel in the Lake District. I can remember being amazed by it, and thinking that I had never heard anything quite like it before. Later that year, someone bought me it (vinyl of course) for my 18th birthday, and it's been a favourite ever since (most recently blasted out whilst driving up the A1).

So thank you Dave Goodhand, Doug Lyon, Howard Ausden. I don't know where 50 years went, but good music and lovely memories last forever.

Writing Prompts:

  • Do you have a dark side? Write about how and when it displays itself.
  • Is there something mysterious about you, or you past life, that you do not want to reveal? Set a timer for ten minutes and write about it.
  • What is your favourite album and why? Does it remind you of a time, place or person? Answer these questions in your writing.
