Pussy Willow
by Kate L. Brown
Pussy Willow wakened
From her winter nap,
For the frolic spring breeze
On her door would tap.
"It is chilly weather
Though the sun feels good.
I will wrap up warmly,
wear my furry hood."
Mistress Pussy Willow
Opened wide her her door.
Never had the sunshine
Seemed so bright before.
Never had the brooklet
Seemed so full of cheer;
"Good morning Pussy Willow
Welcome to you dear."
Never guest was quainter;
Pussy came to town
In a hood of silver grey
And a coat of brown.
Happy little children
Cried with laugh and shout,
"Spring is coming, coming,
Pussy Willow's out."
Warm sunshine and blue sky tempted us out again today on our tandem. We returned home via Spen Valley Greenway,
a wonderful green corridor that we have cycled in all seasons and all weathers. The
colours of the trees and hedgerows are always beautiful, and especially
so today in the clear, bright March light. I stopped to take a
picture of this joyful pussy willow. The catkins had just burst open to reveal their enticing, yellow pollen and looked so pretty against the blue sky.
There were signs everywhere that Spring has come. Officially it started on Monday, March 20th. click here to read about the science behind the vernal equinox when we experienced an equal amount of daylight and darkness. Those who have experienced SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) during the winter months may now be feeling their mood begin to lift with the extended daylight hours.
Writing prompts:

- Is your mood affected by the seasons? Write about how you feel.
